Learn Spanish in Spain
Spain is the perfect country to learn Spanish
When traveling to Spain, there is an energy unlike any other place on earth. Equal parts of determination and relaxation, the Spanish know the power of a siesta (a mid afternoon nap), amazing wine, flamenco dancing, and breathtaking beaches. Located in the south, Spain has pleasant weather most of the year, making this a popular destination for tourists, both from inside Europe and out.
Pablo Picasso, Goya, Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí: what do these names have in common? Spain is home to some of the most influential artists the world has ever seen. Their paintings easily reflect Spanish influence with bright colors, interesting shapes and even the artists themselves. Salvador Dali and his larger-than-life mustache had a long, and ever changing career. Several art galleries are dedicated to honor his work, but also to reflect upon Spain as a whole. One of the most popular museums is Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid, which houses over 8,000 paintings.
Wandering through the streets, you may find yourself witnessing many of Spain’s architectural wonders. Some of the historical buildings mix two different styles, often with Gothic and Islamic influences. Although up to 75% people in Spain are Catholic, there are many Islamic influences due to the close proximity to Morocco. In Granada, Andalusia, one of the most notable structures with the Gothic/Islamic influence is the Calat Alhambra. This stunning fortress, adorned with intricately carved pillars and sweeping views of the town below was originally built in 889 and restructured in the 12th century.
In Spain, interactions between people are usually friendly and open. Often neighbors will come and visit your home without an invitation. Though this is not common in other parts of the world; it might actually be considered rude. Quite the contrary, here it is a friendly, welcoming gesture. The art of hospitality is well known in Spain, where traditional bars provide a warm and inviting atmosphere and almost certainly are open all night. When meeting, physical touching is an important part of interacting with each other. You can see it through dances and personal space will have to be redefined to include this affectionate society.
Embracing Spain is like embracing a part of your inner self. People are lively, the streets are colorful, and you may find yourself hugging more in your daily interactions with the locals. Going to Spain truly means welcoming an invigorating way of life.
