Our well-qualified staff are passionate about teaching foreign languages and love nothing more than passing on their enthusiasm for language and culture to our students. Many of our teachers have studied or worked abroad and have extensive experience of working with people from different cultures. All our teachers are German native speakers and well-versed in adult education. Our goal is to promote the German language and enthuse people about the benefits of intercultural exchange. Equipping people with better language skills gives them a strong basis for successful communication in the workplace. We have been working for years on international projects to forge successful intercultural partnerships, including teacher training and developing barrier-free ways to learn languages. Teaching takes place in small groups and promotes listening, reading, writing and especially speaking skills. We work with modern, learner-centric textbooks. TANDEM Hamburg is also an exam centre. We offer preparatory courses for exams such as TELC Deutsch B1 and B2, TELC C1 Hochschule and TestDaF. Our school is located right in the city centre. We can advise you on visas, offer accommodation options on request and will make sure you feel at home with us.
Don’t just speak German at school; spend time with the locals after class. We can find you a place to stay with German hosts. Rooms come with use of the kitchen or with breakfast included. We check all the rooms personally and are always in close contact with our hosts. We can also pick you up from the airport (surcharge applies). If you prefer to book your own apartment or hotel room, we would be happy to advise.
Our German courses also include a varied cultural and leisure programme. In the summer, we offer two to three activities a week. At other times of the year, we organise a regular pub meet up at least two evenings a month. This is an opportunity to practice your German in a relaxed and cosy atmosphere.

What comes to mind when you think of Hamburg? The Alster, the Elbphilharmonie, HSV or St Pauli? Hamburg is one of Germany’s most attractive and cosmopolitan cities. Its port is the most important in Germany and the second largest in Europe. Hamburg, the green waterfront metropolis, is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. We will show you the countless fascinating sights it has to offer. And the best thing is: almost all of them are just around the corner from our school. TANDEM Hamburg is right in the city centre and only a few minutes on foot from the Elbphilharmonie and waterfront. Whether you’re on a ferry, on a bike or on foot, you’ll always discover something new in the port area: countless container ships, the impressive Speicherstadt (a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2016), the Hafencity with the Elbphilharmonie, the Binnenhafen or the fish market. And if you come with us on our excursions, we’ll show you an unusual way to reach the other side of the River Elbe by foot. Our offering includes walks along the Elbe or Alster, visits to Hamburg’s fabulous parks, and trips to musicals, clubs and theatre events. Bremen, Berlin or Copenhagen are in easy reach for those keen to explore further afield.
