TANDEM Köln: A meeting place for people from all over the world. Since 2004, we have been offering students from different cultures the opportunity to get to know and understand each other. Our relaxed and communicative yet focused atmosphere is the perfect environment to learn German in. You and your specific needs are always at the centre of the learning process.
We offer intensive, super-intensive and evening German courses at all levels throughout the year, as well as preparation courses for the TestDaF and telc exams. You can also take these exams at our school. Our qualified and motivated teachers love teaching German. They make the courses at TANDEM Köln lively and interactive, using a range of communicative and innovative teaching methods. Our staff focus on your individual needs and develop your speaking, writing, reading and listening abilities in equal measure.
We also organise a comprehensive social and cultural programme. Cologne offers a vibrant night-life and a wide variety of festivals, museums, interesting exhibitions, theatres and cinemas, and of course the unforgettable Cologne Carnival.
Looking for accommodation? No problem! We can arrange a room in a shared apartment or with a host family for the duration of your language course (including meals if requested).
We can arrange a room in Cologne for you if requested. This can be with a family or in a shared apartment with one or more people. Staying with locals means you can really get to know our city and life in Germany as well as improving your language skills at the same time. For those who prefer to live with other Tandem students, we can offer a room or small apartment in the school building (limited availability).
Watch out for details of our cultural programme at the start of each week of the course. The activities include tours through the most interesting corners of the city, sports, films, theatre visits, excursions, boat trips on the Rhine, cycle tours, seminars on topical issues and our TANDEM barbecue parties. Please note that travel costs and entrance fees are not included in the price of the language course. The cultural programme takes place three afternoons a week during the summer months (July and August), and once a week during the rest of the year. Weekends are normally free. However, we will be happy to give you tips for interesting excursions or help you organise trips to the surrounding area or to Berlin, Amsterdam, Brussels or Paris.

You will find traces of more than 2000 years of history everywhere you turn in this cathedral city. Imposing buildings, fascinating museums and Cologne’s easy-going, fun-loving attitude – there is something to discover on every street corner here. Cologne Cathedral and its 157-metre-high spires are the city’s landmark and Germany’s most famous architectural monument. The interior of the cathedral is also well worth seeing, including the shrine of the Three Kings. In addition to the historic sights, Cologne is full of interesting and lively districts with many cafés, pubs and shops.
Lively and cosmopolitan, Cologne is the most populous city in western Germany with over a million inhabitants, making it the fourth largest city in Germany after Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. Cologne oozes culture, boasting an opera house, the Philharmonie, important museums, a wealth of theatres and cinemas, concerts large and small, and well over 100 art galleries and antique dealers. In the evenings, there are countless clubs, bars and pubs where you can enjoy Cologne's lively night-life. The people of Cologne are cosmopolitan, friendly and very sociable, making this the perfect city to practice your German. Other annual highlights include the wild days of the Cologne Carnival each February and Cologne Pride in late June/early July.
