TANDEM Bielefeld is all about intercultural exchange. Our team of highly qualified foreign language teachers are native speakers with a passion for education. We are located just five minutes on foot from the historic old town and main shopping arcades. Our school is in a converted historic factory building with large windows and bright rooms. In the courtyard, you’ll find a garden where you can enjoy the breaks between classes.
Our core learning objectives are all about encouraging you to speak and apply what you have learned to everyday life, as well as gaining sound grammar skills and building your vocab. TANDEM Bielefeld can prepare you for a wide range of official language certificates. Learning with us means building your language ability with proven methods while having fun at the same time.

You can only apply for this visa if you have a place to stay, so make sure you search for accommodation in plenty of time. For short visits, you can reserve a room in a local hotel or hostel.
As well as the many activities in the city, you will find interesting days out in the local area, including a zoo, the Teutoburg Forest and the nearby cities of Detmold, Münster and Osnabrück. Bielefeld is also a great base for travelling to other German cities. Hamburg, Cologne and the capital Berlin are all just a 2-3 hour train journey away. Bielefeld, with its 343,000 inhabitants, is where city life and nature meet. In the centre, you’ll find a small but charming old town and a large pedestrianised shopping street and mall, perfect for a stroll or a spot of retail therapy. The Sparrenburg, a 13th century castle, stands on the Sparrenberg hill some 60 metres above the city and is part of Bielefeld’s distinctive skyline. There is also an idyllic lake – the Obersee – on the city’s edge. This a perfect place for walking and jogging, just like the nearby Teutoburg Forest and Bielefeld’s many parks. A city on the forest’s edge offers the luxury of clean, fresh air. Bielefeld is a peaceful and safe place to live. It is also a diverse university city of music festivals, dance shows, concerts, art exhibitions, flea markets and much more.
